Support for Windows 2000 and XP SP2 stops in July
December 10, 2009 – 11:00 pmMicosoft this week reminded that the deadline for support of Windows 2000 and Windows XP Service Pack 2 is coming to an end and will end July 13, 2010 year. After that date, the software giant will not release any updates for these products. On Windows 2000 Server on the same day will cease to apply enhanced support (Extended Support), and Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2 instead of the main support (Mainstream Support) will have expanded, which ends July 14, 2015. For the majority of software Micosoft is a standard scheme – the transition from basic to advanced and then to self (Self-Help Online Support) Services.
For Windows 2000, so pack Service Pack 4 was the last one, which, however, is not a surprise – the company to announce it earlier. Users are encouraged to move to Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. Support for SP3 was completed in June 2005, SP2 – in 2001 and SP1 – July 31, 2000. Those who still sits on the Windows XP SP2, or recommended to upgrade to Windows 7 or Vista, either install SP3, which is supported ends two years after the release of the next service pack (which is unlikely) or at the end of product life cycle. Recall that the basic service for Windows XP coming to an end April 14, 2009, but an extended run its only April 8, 2014 This date applies to all versions of OS except Embedded: Home Edition, Media Center Edition 2002, Media LKAUs 2004, LKAUs 2005 , Professional, Professional x64, Tablet PC Edition, and Tablet PC Edition 2005. Support for SP1 ended October 10, 2006
Given the fact that Windows XP is still installed on many computers, ending official support for SP2 by Micosoft to help increase sales of Windows 7 and, possibly, Vista, although users will pay is unlikely attention on Redmond did not meet the expectations of corporations operating system. In turn, increased demand for “seven” would raise consumer activity in the market of hardware to upgrade current systems or acquiring new ones. On the other hand, the corporate sector will update its PC fleet over the next few years, but individual users can install or already installed SP3, so the sharp increase in sales of Windows 7 is not expected.
