Wikipedia promotes open source

Organization Open Video Alliance launched a campaign which aims to promote open standards for video on the Internet. The first step in this direction will be support for adding video to Article popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

At the moment, Wikipedia on its own promotes Theora, an open format, struggling for the right to be included as part of videotegov HTML 5. This is contrary to the popular video coding standard Flash, which is used by sites like YouTube.

Open Video Alliance merged with the company Miro, a free video codec Theora developer for Windows and Mac. Until now, the procedure for adding video in Wikipedia was inconvenient and confusing, but the joint efforts of the two companies managed to reduce the entire process to the five easy steps. This news gladdened, and at the same time, infuriated Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs), who openly spoke in opposition to gromozdskoy technology from Adobe. The problem is that the development of a standard HTML 5 is not yet complete and is not supported by web browsers. And while HTML 5 is not widely available, Flash will occupy the leading positions.

Organization Open Video Alliance hopes that the use of Wikipedia as an initial channel will make a presentation about the Theora to a level beyond which companies such as Apple will not be able to pass a functional, free and open format.
